Dr. Christopher Herman M.D. (Medical Director)
Dr. Herman is one of the main reasons for the success of the recovery programs at House of Recovery. Dr Herman has graduated with a BS Physics in 1976 from University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN, and a Doctorate in Medicine (M.D.) in 1981 from Howard Univ. College of Medicine Washington, DC.
Dr. Herman holds a medical license in three states: Florida, Michigan and Tennessee; Medical Review Officer Certification; American Society of Addiction Medicine Certification; BLS certification, extensive experience in buprenorphine detox, and over 27 years of addiction related care and psychiatric treatment.
There is no situation or circumstance that Dr. Herman cannot professionally and effectively design a solution and treatment plan for.
Douglas Newman (Clinical Director)
Douglas Newman is an integral component of our House of Recovery. He heads our team of professionals in researching, expanding and implementing holistic and complementary wellness services.
Douglas received a Bachelors Degree in Business and Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida.
Douglas is a highly skilled facilitator of wellness and life balance experiences as well as a popular lecturer to patients, families, professionals and alumnae groups. He is a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist, and is certified in group exercise, hypnotherapy, yoga instruction, animal-assisted therapy and is a Certified Behavioral Health Technician.
Robert also independently produces audio and video classes in exercise, yoga and meditation for his business, Yogaerobics. Inc. He has been a fitness/aerobics and yoga instructor for a number of South Florida facilities, as well as a massage instructor.
Karen Jones (Clinical Coordinator)
Karen Jones comes to HOR with seven years of experience in the field of psychology. Karen has worked with diverse populations of all ages on mental health, substance abuse, and marriage and family issues. Karen has worked in an assortment of settings, ranging from residential to outpatient treatment. Jennifer is passionate about her career and her clients and seeks to be a support in changing unhealthy ways of thinking and behaving. Jennifer received her bachelor’s in liberal arts and sciences from the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University. Karen’s concentration was in psychology and she successfully completed a rigorous thesis on the topic of relational embarrassment. Jennifer received her master’s in science from Palm Beach Atlantic University with a focus of Counseling Psychology. Karen is currently a registered mental health counselor intern and a registered marriage and family therapist intern. She is actively seeking licensure with the State of Florida.
Maurine Hatchett (Program Director)
Maurine Hatchett relocated from Virginia to South Florida in 2006. Maurine joined the HOR team in 2007 working in various positions. Maurine currently serves as the Program Director, and is responsible for providing leadership and structure to the organization. Working in the field mental health and substance abuse since 2007, Maurine has enjoyed seeing clients work though their personal issues and re-entering society as stronger, healthier individuals.
Steven Harris (Community Outreach Director)
Steven Harris has lived in South Florida since 1996, where he is well-known in the community. Steven himself has been in recovery since 2011. He has worked with in the Substance Abuse field since 2012 where he started his career as a behavioral health tech.
Steven currently serves as the Community Outreach Coordinator and is responsible for the client’s day to day well-being and is involved with providers outside of HOR to assist with planning and developing a future for clients that would best suit them in their own personal recovery. Steven is also involved in assisting the Program Director in the growth and development of HOR.
Samantha Smith (Female Behavioral Tech Supervisor)
Samantha has been working in the addiction field for 2 plus years, being sober herself for 3 years. Samantha is currently accumulating credit hours to become a Certified Behavioral Health Technician, as well as being a small business owner since 2006 which compliments her position overseeing the female BHTs.
